Former News-Times publisher dies

Clark Gallagher, who served as publisher of the News-Times from 1998 until early 2004, died unexpectedly on Jan. 1, 2019 following an accident at his home in Bend. He was 71.

During his time as publisher in Newport, Gallagher was heavily involved in the community, serving as president of the Yaquina Bay Economic Development Foundation, as a board member of the Children's Advocacy Center, and as a member of Newport Rotary. He was also a board member of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers' Association.

In addition to his duties of overseeing the day-to-day operations of the News-Times, Gallagher provided a considerable amount of content for the pages of the newspaper, writing frequent editorials and taking numerous photographs (many of them of fishing boats) that appeared over the years.

Gallagher is survived by his wife, Kim, and children, Brett and Tiffany.
