‘Forests, Carbon & Climate Change’ is discussion topic

“Forests, Carbon & Climate Change” will be the topic of a panel presentation from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Newport Visual Arts Center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive.

The event is being hosted by Oregon Wild, KYAQ 91.7, Central Coast NOW, MidCoast Watersheds Council,  Audubon Society of Lincoln City, Lincoln County Community Rights and 350 Oregon Central Coast. The purpose is to share information about how Oregon can confront global climate change by modernizing logging laws and better protecting public lands.

Organizers said that half of Oregon is covered in forests, which absorb and store a tremendous amount of carbon from the atmosphere and make the state uniquely positioned to confront the problem of global climate change.
