The Fleet of Flowers has been honoring those who have lost their lives at sea as a cherished community celebration since 1945. Memorial Day, May 27, marked the 74th annual Fleet of Flowers.
We would like to thank our volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the year to make this event possible. Because of their dedication and enthusiastic efforts, Fleet of Flowers has and continues to be an esteemed and endearing event. Additionally, we are extremely grateful to the City of Depoe Bay for setting up the stage, those who charitably donated flowers and cedar, as well as those who donated their time to wreath making, clean up and traffic control. A special thank you to volunteers from Odin’s Children of San Diego, and further thanks is extended to Chester’s Thrift Way, Depoe Bay Community Church, the Horn Public House and Brewery, Mazatlán Depoe Bay, Side Door Café and the Sea Hag for their generous donations of meals.
We would like to thank all the boat captains, without whom our flotilla would not be possible. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Depoe Bay Fire Department for their considerable contributions.
The Fleet of Flowers would especially like to thank U.S. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay not only for their invaluable assistance leading up to and during the Fleet of Flowers ceremony, but also for the monumental services they provide to our community and nation. Words cannot express our infinite gratitude, but we hope the Fleet of Flowers can, in small part, act as a thank you to them and all that they do for us.
Lastly we would like to thank our community for their continued reverence toward this treasured celebration. Until next year.
