Flags at half mast

Richard Tatum, a Newport resident and U.S. Navy Veteran, is seen at his home in front of a flag which originally flew at the capitol. Tatum has lowered the flag to half mast in honor of the late George H.W. Bush. “I just wanted to do something nice for George,” Tatum said. Wednesday, Dec. 5 has been designated a National Day of Mourning in honor of 41st President George H.W. Bush, a WWII combat veteran who died at age 94 last Friday. Many federal offices, the U.S. Post Office, financial markets and some banks are closed on Wednesday.  (Photo by Shelby Wolfe)
