All ages and skill levels are welcome to join the free and family-friendly fun at the Newport Community Drum Circle’s first drum circle of 2020 on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 2-4 p.m. in the glass, enclosed gazebo at Don and Ann Davis Park, across the street from the Newport Performing Arts Center on West Olive Street.
“We’re about halfway through our 12th year of doing these alcohol-, drug- and smoke-free ad hoc participatory events at the gazebo, and everyone is welcome to come experience community and celebrate diversity with us in a sharing, non-judgmental environment,” said Drum Circle Coordinator, musician and retired behavioral health counselor Chandler Davis.
“Even if you have never been able to learn a musical instrument and are convinced you have no sense of rhythm, we will prove that you — and anybody — can experience the joy of participating in music and can benefit from the well-documented therapeutic power of group drumming,” said Davis. “We’ll even lend you a drum if you don’t have one!”
