Nutritional experts say that diets promising quick and easy weight loss are not the long-term solution for losing weight. These trendy diets not only fail, but they can also be dangerous.
People are invited to learn more at a free seminar, Fad-Free Fabulous Diet, facilitated by Alesha Orton, a registered dietitian at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. The seminar is open to the public and takes place on Wednesday, July 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth S., Newport. Registration is not required.
Orton, a 14-year registered dietitian, has counseled Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital patients on nutritional issues for the past four years.
“There is so much emphasis on weight loss in our culture,” said Orton. “It’s understandable that people grasp at options for quick weight loss, but those diets do not make sound nutritional sense and can actually do harm to your body.”
In this seminar, Orton will discuss what makes a fad diet and why they should be avoided. “We will also explore the ways we should eat, whether we want to lose weight or not,” she added.
