Elmer “Speed” Rasmussen passed away on October 25, 2019, at the age of 79. He was born in Yaquina City to Pete & Mary Rasmussen.
Speed joined the Army in 1958 and served 3 years in France. Not long after serving in the Army, he married Laurie Watson in 1962, and in 1963 they had a daughter Desiree Dawn.
Speed had various jobs over the years ranging from a policeman, long haul drive and a fisherman. He found his niche as a Glazier for Lincoln Glass, and retired after 34 years with the company. He then worked for Food Share of Lincoln County for another 12 years before retiring again in 2019.
Speed married Evelyn Davenport in 1995. They enjoyed 24 years together as they experienced many outdoor activities such as canoeing, crabbing, fishing and clam digging. His real passions were duck hunting and riding his motorcycle.
He built fourteen boats over the years, including two beautiful cedar strip canoes for his wife and his daughter. Speed also made dozens of flag boxes and donated them to veteran’s organizations to be given to the families of vets.
Speed is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughter Desiree (Ty) Wheatley of Newport; sister Maxine Rasmussen of Salem; grandchildren Devin, Breanna and Nicholas; step daughter Lisanne (Tosh) Dickenson of Cheshire and step-grandchildren Cheyenne, Savannah, McKenna, Jesse; four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Mickey, Amos, Irene and Dale.
We all have our favorite memories of Speed. They are not gone who live in the hearts they left behind.
