The Newport chapter of Surfrider Foundation will hold its October meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, at Bosque Cafe, 4590 SE Harborton St., South Beach.
Olivia Schroder and her fifth grade class are starting a new Surfrider Ocean Club. They will give a short talk on what they are doing in their classroom and at Sam Case Elementary School in general. To raise funds for their conservation projects, they are making beeswax wraps as an alternative to plastic wrap, and they are selling raffle tickets for a surfboard donated by Newport Surfrider and Russo Surfboards. Wraps and tickets will be available at the meeting.
Drinks and food are available at Bosque Cafe. Everyone is invited to come out and see how local youths are taking care of the ocean.
Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit, environmental organization that works to protect and preserve the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. The Newport chapter protects beaches from Florence to Tillamook. For more information, go online at newport.surfrider.org.
