‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ to show at Newport Library

The Newport Public Library will show the film “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9.  

This 1941 film is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

Spencer Tracy stars as Dr. Henry Jekyll, who believes good and evil exist in everyone. He tests an elixir he developed on himself, which reveals his evil side, Mr. Hyde. As Hyde, he abuses Ivy Pearson (Ingrid Bergman), while as Jekyll, he plans to marry Beatrix Emery (Lana Turner).

The movie was nominated for three Oscars, for Best Cinematography (black and white), Best Film Editing and Best Music (scoring of a dramatic picture).
