Dobmeier swats, hurls in 13-3 rout

NEWPORT — Senior hurler Jacob Dobmeier drove in six on two hits to lead Newport Cubs Varsity past Valley Catholic 13-3 on Tuesday. Dobmeier fanned 11 Valley Catholic batters and drove in runs on a double in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth.

Newport Cubs Varsity scored five runs in the fifth inning. Mitchell Johnson and Dobmeier each had RBIs in the big inning.

Dobmeier earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for the Cubs. He lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs with 11 strikeouts and and one walk.

James Baglai took the loss for Valley Catholic. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and five runs while walking one.

The Cubs launched one home run on the day on Dobmeier’s fifth inning blast. Other exciting moments included back-to-back RBI doubles by Tyler Biddinger and Jacob Riley in the third inning. Riley drove in three, Biddinger two on the flies to right field.

Dobmeier went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Newport Cubs Varsity in hits. Ryan Torres, Jacob Riley, Tyler Biddinger and Kaden Burns also collected hits, which counted 6-5 in Newport’s favor.

Valley Catholic racked up five hits on the day. Baglai and George Eisenhardt each collected multiple hits for Valley Catholic.
