David Ray Mohni May 1956 – October 2020

David Ray Mohni of Waldport, OR passed away October 19, 2020. His passing is an unexpected loss to those who knew and loved him. He was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son and friend. Most often described as “A Good Man” and a “Great Guy” Dave was happiest being a homebody and spending his time in his forest/garden with his family. Dave loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, rock hunting, fishing, target practice, gold prospecting and gardening. Born May of 1956 to Nancy (Randall) & Ray Mohni in Worthington, MN the family moved to Oregon a couple of years later. Dave attended Lebanon High School where he most enjoyed football and wrestling and made state finals in wrestling. He graduated in 1974 then served a short time in the Army. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Dave worked at logging, Commercial fishing and was a fabulous cook. His cooking career included owning a restaurant as well as working for a variety of establishments some of which earned him culinary awards. His greatest professional joy came in the years when he managed the kitchen at Crestview Heights School. No culinary award could ever have been treasured more than the crayoned Thank You Notes he received from the children. Outside of work he quietly supported efforts to make sure local children would not go hungry. Dave is survived by his wife Raenette Ross Mohni of Waldport, OR; Daughter Arissa Mohni of Waldport, OR; Daughter Kari Mohni Sorenson (Palyn) of Colorado Springs, CO; Daughter Kati Mohni Walton (Jeff) of Cottage Grove, OR; Step-Mother Sharon Gordon of Lebanon, OR; Brother Todd Mohni of Salem, OR; Brother Robert Mohni of Alaska; Step-Sister Lindsay Gordon Kiliszewski (Scott) of Chesapeake, VA; and Sister Pam Mohni Jones of Springfield, OR. Dave had 4 grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home.
