Cubs take final games of the Battle at the Beach with two shutouts


LINCOLN COUNTY — The Newport softball closed out the Battle at the Beach Tournament with a pair of shutout victories on Tuesday, March 27. After splitting the first two games on the opening day of the tournament, the Cubs responded to beat Pleasant Hill 10-0 and Siuslaw 13-0 to finish 3-1 during the tournament. The Cubs got two stellar performances from freshman pitcher Hattie Imbler-Bremne on Tuesday who pitched both games going a combined 11 innings, allowing 6 hits while striking out 19 batters. Over the course of the tournament, she struck out 35 batters over 21 innings while only allowing five earned runs. Newport ends their non-conference schedule on a three-game winning streak and will start conference play on Tuesday, April 3 against North Marion.
