PORTLAND — The margin between first and second place in the 4A State Cheerleading Championships was a razor-thin 0.7 points.
Unfortunately for the Newport Cheer Squad, they found themselves on the wrong side of those 0.7 points, finishing with 181.10 points to Henley’s 181.80. The next closest team scored 25 fewer points than the Cubs.
“It was by far the best that our team has performed and we came up just short,” said head coach Jessica Arnsdorf. “It was very shocking, we weren’t prepared to hear our names second. We got a one-point deduction on something that we haven’t been deducted on all season. Watching the video I couldn’t see what the judges saw.”
