Coastal Gems to walk in Lincoln City

The Big Timber Rifle and Pistol Club celebrated a new year with its annual fire extinguisher shoot, held on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the gun range just north of Siletz. Around 40 first extinguishers that had been taken out of service by Valley Fire Control were donated to the club for the event. These were set up at distances ranging from 50 yards to 500 yards, and people could shoot pistols or rifles at the targets. Each hit sent a cloud of white powder into the air. Join the Yachats Coastal Gems on Tuesday, Jan. 8, for a three or six-mile, gently hilly stroll through Lincoln City’s downtown area, seaside wooded neighborhoods and the Connie Hansen Garden.

Walkers will pass by a number of restaurants and visitor shops, then meander through an older neighborhood with lovely mature and new gardens and yards, returning along the western edge of the city. The midpoint of the walk is at the Chinook Winds Casino Resort, where food and restrooms are available.

Dogs are allowed on the walk but must be on a six-foot, non-extendable lead, and owners must carry and use appropriate cleanup materials.

Those wanting to take part should meet the group inside Cozy Cove Beach Front Resort Inn, 515 NW Inlet Ave., Lincoln City, at 9:45 a.m. for registration. The walk starts at 10a.m. For more information, call Maryann at 541-961-4279 or email [email protected].
