I teach Algebra 1, IB Math Studies and a Freshmen AVID class at Newport High School.
What got you into this line of work?
I come from a family of educators. My dad is a professor of theology. My mother was a French teacher. My twin sister is a high school social studies teacher, and my older brother is a middle school administrator.
B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Valparaiso University and M.S. in Mathematics Education from Oregon State University.
First Coaching Job:
My first coaching job was a girls’ JV head coach/assistant varsity coach for Chiloquin High School.
What did you learn from it?
I gained a greater understanding of the positive impact that a coach can have on their athletes lives, and the ins and outs of coaching at a small school.
I am happily married to my best friend, Ali Spangler, and dog parents to Yogi, our German Shorthaired Pointer.
Road to Lincoln County:
I first came to Oregon and taught at Chiloquin High School for three years for the Klamath County School District. My wife grew up in Newport, and her family still lives in the area. When a job opportunity opened up in Lincoln County, we decided to move to the coast.
I am a member of the Newport Boosters, as well as on the Newport Storm Board.

What is Your Favorite Thing about coaching in Newport/Lincoln County?
I really enjoy the community support and the amazing staff and students that I get to work with every day.
