 I teach math, AVID and physical education

What got you into this line of work?

I was inspired by teachers and coaches I had as a youth, like Kurt Hargett, Mark Moore, Mike McAfee, Jim Ashard, Dave O’Donnell, Rod Losier, Marty Ulstad, John Voorhies and many more. I knew that I wanted to do for kids what they did for me.

Education:

Southern Oregon University, BS and MS in education

First Coaching Job:

I coached YMCA fifth grade boys basketball when I was in college. After I graduated, I was hired to be the offensive coordinator of Phoenix High School’s JV football team.

What did you learn from it?

 I learned that I needed to learn more and I loved it.

Family/Children:

Katey wife, Tana’ya (18), Eli (5), Azalea (3), Luke (1)

Road to Lincoln County:

I grew up in Newport. Was in Mrs. Cook’s first grade class at Sam Case, went to Newport Middle, graduated with honors at Newport High. Go Cubs!

Favorite Food:

On an island for the rest of my life with one meal….I am gonna go with Thanksgiving dinner! Lots of options and a good night’s sleep when I am done.

Buffalo Bills (not a bandwagon guy)

 Hobbies/Leisurely Pursuits:

I have a knack for learning new crafts and being entrepreneurial with it. I like being industrious.

What is Your Favorite Thing about coaching in Newport/Lincoln County?

Toledo is a special place with special people and amazing kids. I love the kids and the people here. I think the relationships and the people is what I always come back to. Winning is nice, too!
