Changes coming to 2020 high school football

OREGON — Earlier this week, the Oregon School Activities Association Football Ad Hoc Committee made recommendations for small-school football in Oregon.

At the OSAA office in Wilsonville, the committee suggested that Class 2A football programs switch to playing nine-man football instead of playing traditional 11 versus 11.

Toledo, as part of the 2A football division, could be affected by the change if it is upheld.

Changes to six-man football can also take place if the suggestions are voted in.

Enrollment could better reflect school population for six-man football, and cutoff dates could be extended to allow the formation of a semifinal and championship game in the future.

Also, the six-man football concept was also proposed to continue into the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

This story will be updated as news develops.
