SWEET HOME — Taft’s Kaden Kaden Wright blistered the straightaways at the Meet of Champions Saturday, April 26, earning third place in the men’s 100- and 200-meter dashes amid a field crowded with 30 teams.
A tenth of a second separated the three front runners in the 100 meters, with first-place Siuslaw posting 11.39, Lowell 11.43 and Taft’s Wright 11.47.
It was another photo-finish in the 200 as Wright followed leaders Lowell (23.40) and Santiam (23.61) with a 23.75 time.
In other top scoring efforts, Mad Scott launched the 800g javelin to take 4th with 162-07, his best throw ever but short of first place Siuslaw’s 191-04. Taft’s Savannah Russo also earned a fourth place in women’s javelin, throwing the 600g spear 104-4.
High jumper Kadence James lifted team scores for the women with a 4-08 score, good enough for sixth place, while Hadassah Wilson was seventh in the 400 meters (1:04.21) and long jump (15-01).
The Taft men retired from the event in a tie for ninth place with Woodburn, while the ladies collected eight points for 18th place. Sisters dominated the men’s track and field with 101 points, while the Philomath women ruled the day with 130.5 points.
