NEWPORT — The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation will be holding a fishing, crabbing and boating event for children with special needs in Yaquina Bay on Saturday, July 27.
The organization, which is determined to “enrichen the lives of children with special needs through the sport of fishing,” holds similar events across America annually, including five in Oregon. Participants will receive a free fishing gear “fun pack,” including rod and reel, tackle box, T-shirt, cap and photo plaque.
It will be the first time Newport has hosted the event, said Jay Yelas, of Lincoln City, the foundation’s executive director.
“It will be a joyful day on the water for kids and their families,” said Yelas, explaining the adventure is open to kids 6 to 18 years of age.
Pre-registration is required by contacting Yelas at [email protected] The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, visit the website castforkids.org/event/newportbay.
