Carol Ann Mastel (McFadden) March 21, 1942-June 24, 2020
Carol passed away on June 24th in Oregon City, OR as a result of complications from multiple recurring health issues. She was born in Seattle, WA on March 21st 1942 to Arthur and June McFadden.
She graduated Nestucca Union High School in Cloverdale, OR in 1960 where she met Lloyd Mastel. A 39 year marriage to Lloyd began on August 12th 1960 and her son Douglas was born soon after in Newport in May 1961.
Carol loved being a homemaker, sewing, crafting and cooking. There was a family saying that if you left Carol’s house hungry it’s your own fault. She also was an avid gardener and loved fishing and the outdoors. She was heavily involved in the area pool league and was a 40yr member of the local Eagles Auxiliary 2817 for which she once served as Madam President. She was active with the Lincoln Co Fair and over the years won several awards for crafts and food processing. In her young adult life she taught hula dance to some of the local girls—a skill she learned as an early teenager during her family’s time living on post-war Guam. She suffered a stroke in 2016 which she would joke about later was “the only thing that slowed her down.” With the exception of the last 4yrs, she lived her entire adult life in Newport.
She leaves behind her son Douglas of Keizer OR, granddaughters Sarah Mastel of Beaverton OR, and Hannah Mastel of Flower Mound, TX. Sister Linda Helgerson and brother-in-law Wayne of Siletz OR, brother Edward McFadden and sister-in-law Bonnie of Newport OR, brother Bruce McFadden of Mollala, OR and much loved nieces Shelly Helgerson and Cyndi Baker of Mollala, OR. She also leaves behind numerous additional nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Carol requested no ceremony or gifts and asked those who knew her to share and cherish the beloved memories of her life. Final arrangements are by cremation.
