Bringing in 2021 with a bang

The Big Timber Rifle and Pistol Club brought in the new year with a bang on Saturday, Jan. 2, with the annual fire extinguisher shoot at its range located north of Siletz. Throughout the year, the gun club gathers up fire extinguishers that have expired and been taken out of service. This year, there were around 150 of them. On Saturday, people shot at distances ranging from 25 yards for handguns all the way out to 500 yards for scoped rifles, with cheers erupting whenever a bullet hit the mark and a fire extinguisher erupted in a cloud of white powder. After the shoot, which was open to the general public, the remains of the extinguishers were gathered up to be recycled. (Photos by Steve Card)
