Boosters provide another round of support for students

For the third time in six weeks, the Newport Booster Club has donated grocery gift cards for local families with school-aged children faced with a food emergency. Continuing a program that started in early April, the boosters delivered an additional $12,500 in grocery gift cards to  Newport’s public schools on Wednesday, May 13.

The Newport Booster Club, a 70-year-old institution, announced in early April that they would match donated funds to financially support Newport families with school-aged children.

Wednesday’s card distribution moved the overall total of funds given to $46,000 — or 920 $50 grocery gift cards. The funds came from an initial $10,000 pledge by the Booster Club. The remaining contributions are from the amazing generosity of the Newport community.

If individuals, businesses or groups would like to support the boosters in their efforts, donations can be made in two ways: by check, payable to “Newport Booster Club/Corona Virus Fund,” and either mailed to P.O. Box 2216 or online through the “Donate” on the Newport Booster Club Facebook page —
