Boomers blow out Bandon, 8-1

TOLEDO — The Boomers blew the bloomers out of Bandon 8-1 on Tuesday.

Bandon got on the board early in the first, courtesy of a Boomer error, then pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth as Ashton Retherford doubled on the first pitch of the frame, scoring one run while an error scored another. Markus Cross, Jacob Long and Bubba Barnhart each drove in runs during the inning.

Mason McAlpine was the winning pitcher for Toledo, lasting six innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out eight and walking zero. Coren Loper threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Wilhite took the loss for Bandon, pitching six innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out two and walking one.

The Boomers racked up eight hits, including two each by swat masters Retherford, McAlpine, and Cross.

The win came off an April 26, 12-2 win Friday against Waldport that included a  seven-run second inning that led Toledo Boomers Varsity to a 12-2 victory on Friday. The explosion was triggered by a McAlpine triple, a single by Jacob Long, a groundout by Spencer Tower, and a double by Jaxon Rozewski.

McAlpine, who went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Toledo in hits, was the winning pitcher while Kellen Howard took the loss for Waldport.
