Lincoln City’s Bijou Theatre has declared the week of March 22-28 as “No Small Screens Week.” During that week, which coincides with spring break, the theater will deviate from playing first-run, new films to play four epic, classic films on the Bijou’s big silver screen.
“We want everyone to have an epic week while spending time in Lincoln City,” said Bijou co-owner Keith Altomare. “Along with the epic places to eat, play and stay, we wanted to give cinema lovers an experience that they rarely get. A chance to see a great classic film on a big silver screen is rare these days. These films are so much better when seen in the places where they are created to be shown.”
Betsy Altomare, co-owner and film booker for the theater, worked on the lineup. “We wanted to book movies that appeal to more than just one group of film fans,” she said. “Many have mentioned they would love to see these classics on the big screen again. We are happy they have the opportunity. Our schedule for ‘No Small Screens Week’ is set up so most can take in all four great films and still see the many great sites on the coast.”
The legendary films leading off the first “No Small Screens Week” include the original “Mary Poppins,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Rebel Without a Cause.” The movies were booked with the sponsorship of Explore Lincoln City, Lincoln City Glass Art Studio and Oregon Coast Community College.
The schedule, which can also be found online at cinemalovers.com, includes:
Monday, March 25 — “Lawrence of Arabia” (2 p.m.), “Mary Poppins” (6:30 p.m.),
The Bijou Theatre has been presenting great movies since 1937. In 2016, it was voted Small Business of the Year in Lincoln City.
