Even though public gatherings are restricted, the beaches still need people’s help. King tides (some of the highest high tides of the year) and winter storms are already bringing in marine debris, and help is needed to keep the beaches clean.
On the day after Thanksgiving — Friday, Nov. 27 — Newport Surfrider and SOLVE will be supporting a beach cleanup at the Nye Beach turnaround in Newport from noon to 4 p.m. To keep volunteers safe, pre-registration and masks are required. To register, go online at tinyurl.com/yxawwra9.
Surfrider will have supplies available, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and a bucket for trash. Volunteers can start any time within the window to maintain distancing guidelines from the state of Oregon — in other words, a casual start and finish to avoid any congregation of volunteers.
