The 2018 Newport Seafood and Wine Festival’s Amateur Wine Competition took place on Sunday, Jan. 28.
The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce received wines from amateur winemakers all around Oregon and Washington, as well as a few from Florida and Texas. Wines were sorted by variety and then arranged into flights to be blind tasted by a select panel of experienced judges. Scores were given for color, bouquet, taste, finish and overall impression. Twelve of the 58 wines submitted earned a gold medal, 14 wines earned silver medals, 15 earned bronze medals, and 17 of the submissions were non-medalists.
