Samantha Ferris has been providing eyelash extension services for a little more than a year, steadily building her clientele to the point where she recently opened her own shop in Newport.

Ferris, who was born and raised in Newport, attended Phagans' Newport Academy of Cosmetology, where she became licensed in esthetics, “and then I got certified through Diva Lash Studio in Lincoln City,” she said. “I went to school awhile ago, but I didn’t really do anything with it until I had the baby. She kind of motivated me.”

Her baby, Aurora, was born in January of 2018, and shortly afterward, Ferris began offering eyelash extension services. “I started working out of my home, and I built clients there. Then I got a space at Tan Republic, and I start doing lashes there, and the business continued to grow,” she said.

This growth is what led Ferris to ultimately open her own shop, which she named Aurora Lashes, after her daughter. It is located at 914 S Coast Highway, suite 102, in Newport, in the lower level of the Windermere Real Estate building. She opened there in January.

“I offer eyelash extensions, volume and classic,” she said. “Classic is where you do one-to-one eyelashes, it’s more of a natural look. And then volume is more dramatic. You can put like six eyelashes or 11 eyelashes to one, so the ratio really goes up.”

And the trend is becoming quite popular, she added. “It’s really big, and once people get lashes, they don’t ever want to not lash, so once they come, they’re addicted from the first service. It’s not like other services where they might do it every eight months. They come every two to three weeks religiously, and for years.”

And Ferris said she gets to know her customers quite well. “It’s really fun and relaxing. Girls basically come in and tell me about their week, and I tell them about mine, we get each other gifts, it’s like a friendship. And you continue to see them every three weeks, so it’s more than just lashes. You really get to know each other. I’ve never had so many friends in my life.”

Ferris works by appointment. “I’m available seven days a week, mornings and nights, and I work on Sundays. It’s really neat for me doing this because I get to set my own hours and be home a lot and work a lot, too, so it’s like the perfect balance.”

People wanting to know more about the services offered or wanting to schedule an appointment can contact Ferris by calling 541-819-2797. They can see samples of her work on her Instagram page called @aurora_lashess.
