Members of Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport will host a special dinner on Sunday, March 17, St Patrick’s Day, at 12:15 p.m. The entire community is invited; a suggested donation for the meal is $10.
The dinner menu will include corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, applesauce, Irish soda bread, green mint ice cream and shortbread cookies. Diners may also bid on silent auction items donated by the congregation’s crafters, authors and artists.
The event is aimed at raising funds for Randy’s Feed and Read, a monthly program offering activities, reading opportunities and a hearty dinner for local families connected with the congregation through agencies such as the school district’s HELP program and Samaritan House Shelter. The families are also encouraged to take home books, clothing and hygiene items that have been donated to the program.
Events such as Randy’s Feed and Read and the St Patrick’s Day dinner offer congregation members an opportunity to explore a basic Lutheran conviction: that all of life in Christ Jesus, and that every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life, flows from a living and loving confidence in God’s grace.
