More than 25 electric vehicles (EVs) will available for tours, and some for test drives, this Sunday, April 14, in South Beach from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Toyota of Newport, located at 3234 S Coast Highway in South Beach, is hosting the EVent for all makes and models of EVs, including Chevrolet, Honda, Kia, Nissan, Tesla, Toyota and a new brand of EV called Solo. The EVent is geared toward introducing more residents of the Oregon coast to the various types of EVs available, many of them quite affordable. More than 200 EVs are driven by people who live on the central coast.

“Most of the vehicles on display will be shown by their owners who love talking about their cars,” said volunteer event coordinator Debbie Jimmerson, of Lincoln Beach. “They believe EVs are a great choice not only for lowering air pollution, but because EVs are less expensive to fuel, are very quiet and are fun to drive.”

Jimmerson added that in connection with Earth Day coming up on April 22, “We are holding the local EVent as part of Plug-In America’s nationwide effort. We believe this will be the largest Drive Electric Earth Day EVent in Oregon.”

A choice of a free hot dog or burger — prepared by Phill’s Smok/N Grill — will be available to the first 200 people to attend the EVent. Co-sponsors include Central Lincoln PUD, Toyota of Newport, Coastline Auto Detail and Oregon Beach Vacations.
