Thanks to a $1,000 donation from Airrow Heating & Sheet Metal, the Waldport Senior Class of 2019 will celebrate its graduation this spring in a safe and sober environment.
Airrow’s charitable donation contest, “Contributing to the Coast,” was part of a community engagement initiative by owner Garrett Bush.
“We are proud to support our local community, and we make a point to do so throughout the year,” said Bush.
The contest kicked off on Airrow Heating’s Facebook page in November, asking the community to nominate their favorite Lincoln County based, nonprofit organizations. By the end of the month, there were more than 300 nominations for 33 different organizations.
The three organizations with the most nominations were My Sisters’ Place, Neighbors for Kids, and Waldport Parents of the Senior Class, Inc. All three were selected to compete in the contest on AirrowHeating.com in hopes of winning the first place prize.
“We didn’t want any of the organizations to go home empty-handed, so in addition to the $1,000 first place donation, we decided to also offer a second and third place prize of $400 and $100 respectively,” said Bush.
Throughout the month of December and early January, votes were cast on Airrow Heating’s website. After nearly 2,000 votes over six weeks, the Waldport Parents of the Senior Class was in first place with 66.5 percent of the total votes.
Jolene Ostling, a representative of Waldport Parents of the Senior Class, Inc., said, “It takes a village to help groups in this community. The opportunity provided by Airrow Heating will allow us to give our senior students a fun and sober grad night, and for that, we are very grateful.”
Because of the positive response from the community, Airrow Heating plans to run another contest in the future with three new nonprofit organizations selected to participate.
