A thriving, gifted arts community

I am once again amazed at the time and talent our community dedicates to the performing arts. This week, the Broadway hit “Man of La Mancha” (winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical) is preparing to open at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

I made a rough calculation of the contribution that volunteer artisans, musicians and performers have made in bringing this show to our community, as if they earned even minimum wage. It added up to $200,000. And the talent here is far from “minimum.” The orchestra is filled with top-tier musicians, the stage is rife with leading actors from previous local hits and the production crew includes the best of the best.

I hope Lincoln County knows how fortunate we are to have such a thriving, gifted arts community.
