Everyone is invited to the unveiling of the 2020 Trip and Hike List and the Educational Presentations List on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 1–2 p.m at the Newport 60+ Activity Center.
Dee Kecy, a four-year employee who plans trips for the center, said that her goal is “to have a wide variety of trips that will appeal to everyone — that are not only fun and entertaining but are also educational. An example is learning the history of a gem in our backyard, Boiler Bay, formerly known as Briggs Landing, just north of Depoe Bay.”
On the Hike List for this year, there 15 organized hikes that are local and in the valley. To name a few: Gerdemann Preserve, Trappist Abbey, Finley Wildlife Preserve and Alsea Falls. New trips for 2020 include visits to the Good Earth & Garden Show, Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, Strawberry Festival, Butterflies & Fort Umpqua, among others.
Kecy’s co-worker, Judy Cook, has been working hard planning some of the Educational Presentations. Some of the presentations coming up in 2020: “The Benefits of Animal Companionship,” “Beachcombing 101,” “Mushroom Hunting” and “Fairy Architecture.”
The Newport 60+ Activity Center is located at 20 SE 2nd Street, Newport, or for more information, stop by the center or call 541-265-9617.
