Contest for young writers underway

Posted: Tuesday, Feb 14th, 2017

This year's Waldport Library Young Writers' 2017 Competition is now open to fifth grade through high school students of Lincoln County. This includes students in public, private, home school, online, and taking classes at Oregon Coast Community College.

The prompt for this year's competition is based on the 2017 summer reading program theme: "Build a Better World." Sharon McCrum, the family outreach coordinator for the Waldport Library, said, "When I saw this year's theme for the summer, I decided it was perfect for our young writers' competition. Many students are already thinking about how they would like to make this world better, and now they have a chance to put their ideas into words. Some students already have stories or essays on this topic. I want to encourage them to take their ideas and develop them for this competition."
